GLOSSARY  (A - D)


ILLEGITIMATE WING : rudimentary Finger situated in the knob of the wing and carrying(wearing) some short steep feathers.

WINGS TOMBANTES : low or very low carried(worn) Wings and, generally little squeezed(tightened) in the body, being able to go as far as masking thighs. Looked for to certain dwarfish races. Defect to most of the big races and their diminutives.

SPLIT WING : Absence of continuance between the primary rémiges and the secondary rémiges. Grave defect for a single wing, eliminating heat when two wings are split.

ANGLE OF TAIL : Angle formed between the direction(management) of the first rectrices or the sickles in their base and the general line of the back. Confront of back forward with regard to the continuation of the line of the back. In certain works this angle is measured with regard to the horizontal. In this standard we measure him(it) with regard to the line of the back, this angle not in front of not or little to vary with the position of the animal.

AUTOSOMAL : Qualifier of all the bothers which are not carried(worn) with the sexual chromosomes.

BANTAM : international Word serving for indicating(appointing) the dwarfish poultry. Originally it is the name of a port(bearing) of the island of Java.

BEARD : Feathers of the throat(breast) particularly developed replacing or accompanying barbs. Can vary of shape with the race which is provided with it. The East the most generally consisted of a tie or a beard cleanly said, surrounded with two favourites(whiskers) who mask mumps; one says then: beard trilobée.

BEARDS : Elements of the feather implanted on the rachis; they are bound(connected) among them by barbules and form the main thing of the body of the feather.

BARBS : Double fleshy appendix hanging under the beak and the throat(breast) of most of the races of hens and cocks.

BEAK OVERLAPS : Deformation where the two mandibles of the beak, directed in different directions(managements), do not become covered. Defect eliminating heat.

TWISTED BEAK : Deformation where the two mandibles of the beak, although becoming covered, are not aligned in the axis of the head. Defect eliminating heat.

FULLNESS : Set(group) of soft feathers, duveteuses and supplied, on loins and thighs of certain races.

ARMBAND : tectrices, the last two rows of feathers of coverage of the wing, form, in certain variety show, either a band(strip) colored across the closed wing if feathers are monochrome, or a double colored band(strip) if feathers are bi or French peoples; in this last case one speaks of " double armbands.

CAMAIL : Set(group) of feathers furnishing the back and the sides of the neck, being able to close under the throat(breast). More or less long and supplied according to the races.

CHROMOSOME : present Sticks in the pits of cells and carrying(wearing) bothers. Always associated with pairs and carrying(wearing), generally identical bothers in every pair. In gametes (sperm cells and ovules) chromosomes are not associated any more with pairs, a normal cell dividing to give two gametes. The pairs are reconstituted during the conception.

SEXUAL CHROMOSOMES : The cock possesses two sexual chromosomes which, as every others carry(wear) different bothers. Hen has only a single sexual chromosome. It is presence or absence of this second sexual chromosome which determines sex. Bothers carried(worn) with the sexual chromosomes are those that carry(wear) said characters " bound(connected) to the sex ".

THOROUGH COLOUR : dominant Complexion of the plumage of a poultry on which add, possibly, marks(brands) and drawings.

COLOUR OF EYES : concern only the iris.

BLOW OF THUMB : side Sinking on the side of a simple crest, near the base. It is a grave defect.

PILLOW : Eating on the loins of certain races as Bantam of Peking.

CREST : fleshy Appendix, of various forms according to the races, on the skull of cocks and hens. To see the chapter dedicated to this attribute.

FLOATING CREST : Crete crétillons of which is not aligned. Defect.

WAISTED CREST : Crete describing a curve on its length instead of being rectilinear. Defect.

CRÊTILLON: Each of the divisions of the summit of a simple crest. One says also "teeth".

FORKED CRÊTILLON : Crétillon dividing into two. It is a defect eliminating heat.

SIDE CRÊTILLON : Exgrowth on the side of the lobe of a simple crest. It is a defect eliminating heat.

MANE : Set(group) of feathers directed to the back, situated on the sides of the neck and inflating the camail of certain races.

THIGH : Part of the paw formed with the thighbone, so strictly invisible on hens because flooded in the mass of the body. Custom(usage) makes however that one names frequently thigh part formed with the shin (the "pestle" on a carcass), more or less loosened(kicked away) of the body according to the races.

BREECHES : Eating feathers of thighs.

TOOTH : Synonym of crétillon.

DOMINANT : bothers being able to express their action even though they are heterozygous are called dominant. This character is relative because certain bothers are more dominant than the others. Anyway, to pass on a dominant characteristic to the totality of their descent, a cock and a hen must be homozygous for the bother carrying(wearing) character.

BACK OF CARP : sharply convex or arched Back. It is a defect eliminating heat.
